Carbon Cycle The ocean plays an important role in the global carbon cycle. The reason for this is because carbon moves in and out or the ocean daily. Also, the ocean absorbs and stores carbon dioxide. Oceans currently absorb 30-50% of the CO2 produced by the burning of fossil fuel.

Energy in a huge part of every animal's survival. For instance, in the ocean there are four different classes of consumers that feed on each other. These classes are called; third-level(shark), second-level(seal), first-level (herring), and primary consumers(phytoplankton). As each consumer feeds on each other 10% of energy is lost due to heat, so that means each animal losses 10% of energy per class of consumer. So as you can see being a shark or a third-level consumer, that shark would need more food than a seal or fish because their food has less energy.
